Introduction

I want to be clear from the outset, today’s question is not for those who follow or preach Jesus Christ. It is for those who are still doubting or rejecting Him. Those who still think that they can survive God’s wrath without Jesus. The question for you today is What if you’re wrong?

Rejecting Jesus Christ, with all the strong claims that He makes about Himself, is something that must be seriously thought out. In other words, you must have really good reasons to do so.

What You Must Consider

During His earthly life and ministry, Jesus Christ made many claims that are tremendous! Claims that even till now, 2,000 years later, only Him has been able to make. I will like for you to consider some of them below and see if there are any other alternatives out there for them.

1. He is the ONLY WAY to God

In John 14, Jesus promises His disciples a dwelling or resting place in heaven. In the passage, He says He’s going back to heaven to prepare the “mansions,” and that He will return for His followers. Then He makes this bold claim:

John 14:6 Jesus saith unto him, I am the way, the truth, and the life: no man cometh unto the Father, but by me.

What comes to your mind when you hear something like this? Do you think He is a joke, a liar, or a lunatic? If you do, what if you’re wrong? Have you figured out a way to prove yourself right?

Multiple times Jesus calls Himself the “door of the sheep” (John 10:7,9). After His death, burial and resurrection, His Apostles tell us that by no other name (or way) can anyone get to God than Jesus Christ.

Acts 4:12 Neither is there salvation in any other: for there is none other name under heaven given among men, whereby we must be saved.

2. He Gives His life for Your Sins

Before the cross, Jesus said many times that He’d die and rise again the third day. Here is one of them:

Matthew 20:17-19   And Jesus going up to Jerusalem took the twelve disciples apart in the way, and said unto them, 18 Behold, we go up to Jerusalem; and the Son of man shall be betrayed unto the chief priests and unto the scribes, and they shall condemn him to death, 19 And shall deliver him to the Gentiles to mock, and to scourge, and to crucify him: and the third day he shall rise again.

The purpose of His suffering and death is to atone for the sins and rebellions of the world, including yours and mine. He was the sacrificial Lamb that was slain for our sins (John 1:29,36). In Romans 4:25, the Bible says that Jesus Christ “was delivered for our offences, and was raised again for our justification.”

Peter makes the point this way: 1 Peter 3:18:

“For Christ also hath once suffered for sins, the just for the unjust, that he might bring us to God, being put to death in the flesh, but quickened by the Spirit.”

Did you notice how the purpose of His sacrifice lines up with His claim of being the only way to God?

He is the only way by which anyone can be redeemed. Therefore, rejecting Him is also rejecting the way to God. It is rejecting the free salvation that He offers. But not only that, it is piling up wrath for yourself against the day of judgment. And yes, there is a day of judgment coming soon, and the Judge will be Jesus Christ Himself.

If you think these are all made up, again, what if at the end of the day, you are wrong?

3. He is God

This is the most serious claim anyone can make. There must be something really unique about Jesus Christ to be able to make Himself the same with God. I strongly believe there is, which is why I’m writing this article to warn the unbelievers.

There are many religions in the world today, each having prominent figures or persons, dead or alive, who claim to have received some kind of enlightenment. Many powerful men have come and gone. But NONE has claimed to be God, or made Himself the same with God. That should make you want to rethink your position about Jesus Christ if you’re still rejecting Him.

There people who claim to believe in Jesus but reject Him as God. The possible reasons for this could that they do not read the Bible. They might also have the wrong translations of the Bible in which the Word has been perverted. It could also be that they do not take everything in the Bible as the word of God.

The Gospel of John opens by introducing Jesus Christ as God:

John 1:1-3  In the beginning was the Word, and the Word was with God, and the Word was God. 2 The same was in the beginning with God. 3 All things were made by him; and without him was not any thing made that was made.

In John 10:30, Jesus says “I and my Father are one.” The Jews recognized this claim of Christ. They wanted to stone Him for blasphemy. Here is their response in their own words:

John 10:33   The Jews answered him, saying, For a good work we stone thee not; but for blasphemy; and because that thou, being a man, makest thyself God.

Many powerful men have come and gone. But NONE has claimed to be God, or made Himself the same with God. That should make you want to rethink your position about Jesus Christ if you’re still rejecting Him.

Jesus Christ is More that Just a Man

The truth is that Jesus, during His earthly life, was not just a man. He was God manifested in the flesh. In the Godhead, Jesus Christ is the God the Son, which means He is God Himself. Rejecting the Deity of Christ, or the works that He does, is rejecting God. Consider the following from the Epistles:

2 Corinthians 5:19 To wit, that God was in Christ, reconciling the world unto himself, not imputing their trespasses unto them; and hath committed unto us the word of reconciliation.

That was God on the cross, reconciling you to Himself. The implication of this is that you cannot believe in God, or be reconciled to God, without believing in Jesus Christ.

Jesus Christ is not just a good teacher who teaches us how to love our enemies. He is not just one of the prophets, which by the way is as far as other religions, like Islam, can go in there belief in Jesus Christ. You must believe all that He says about Himself, otherwise you are rejecting God!

Listen to the Bible:

John 5:23 That all men should honour the Son, even as they honour the Father. He that honoureth not the Son honoureth not the Father which hath sent him.

1 John 2:23 Whosoever denieth the Son, the same hath not the Father: [but] he that acknowledgeth the Son hath the Father also.

Are you willing to acknowledge the Son? And if not, here is another question for you:

Have You any Other Plan, Just in Case?

The above is just a few of the many uniqueness of Christ. And this is not to mention all the miracles, wonders, and mighty works that He did and still does. If you still believe that all the above are made up, what if you are wrong? Are you prepared for the consequences? Do you have any other plan that will help you avert the wrath of God?

Jesus left some serious warnings for those who do not take Him seriously. I have shared some of them below:

John 12:48 He that rejecteth me, and receiveth not my words, hath one that judgeth him: the word that I have spoken, the same shall judge him in the last day.

John 3:36 He that believeth on the Son hath everlasting life: and he that believeth not the Son shall not see life; but the wrath of God abideth on him.

The wrath of God is the future judgment for those who reject Jesus Christ. The Words of Jesus contained in the Bible, upon which this article is based, will witness against the unbelievers on the last day. This is something you must avoid by all means. But the means has of course been provided in Christ.

Do not toy with God’s judgment or gamble with your eternity.

If you still believe that all the above are made up, what if you are wrong? Are you prepared for the consequences? Do you have any other plan that will help you avert the wrath of God?

In Case You Change Your Mind

Receiving Christ begins with humbling yourself before Him. Admit that you have sinned against God. Repent from your sins and believe in Jesus as your personal Saviour and Lord. It is only through His shed blood that you can receive the remission of sins. This will make you right with God.  And you can be rest assured that you have the way, the truth, and the life.

A Message to the Believers

For those who claim to know and follow Jesus Christ, make sure you’re not self-deceived. The Bible says: “Examine yourselves, whether ye be in the faith; prove your own selves.” 2 Corinthians 13:5. It is bad enough to be lost. But it is even worse to think that you’re saved while you are still lost.

Two things apply to those who are genuinely saved: they have the knowledge of it; and they have the assurance of being with Christ in eternity.

If you do not possess this knowledge and assurance, you may want to find out how to truly be saved. I invite you to take a look at these recommended articles:
