There are obvious differences between the crowd and the truth. One of them is that they move in opposite directions. The genuine believers must therefore carefully evaluate the validity of the modern-day mega churches and ministries. That is what this study will help you to do.

  3. The Truth

Introduction

Have you noticed how much crowd some ministries are pulling these days? Sometimes I wonder what the crowd is getting from them. Today’s discussion is about the falling away of the world from the truth. And how much the world despises the truth.

But before I proceed, I will like to declare something from the outset: I’m not against the growth of any ministry or church. But it matters a lot what is drawing the people. Is it good doctrines or lies and false revelations?

I will be speaking today of two things that are contrary to each other. They are the crowd and the truth. These two move in opposite directions. While I’m speaking on the crowd, I will also tell you a little about the crowd movers. I begin the crowd.

The Crowd

The crowd involves the people who are looking to please themselves rather than God. They are not interested in the truth. In many occasions, they have no interest in what is right. They are looking for what appeals to their fleshly desires, or that which promises to fulfill them.

The Crowd Does Not Follow the Truth

The people in crowd have concluded on the direction where they travel. They won’t change course to follow you if you’re not on their course. In other words, if they follow you, it is either you’re already traveling in their direction, or you are the one changing course to conform with them.

So if you’re not part of the crowd yet, then you need to keep this in mind: wherever the crowd is present, the truth is absent. This is because the crowd is not attracted to the truth.

Here is another one: the Bible says that on the last days, the people, that is, the crowd, will fall away from the truth, and follow fables, lies.

We live in the last days now. So, if you find the crowd gathering around a movement or a ministry, etc., find out what is drawing the people, and you will quickly discover the lies beneath the show.

The Crowd is Many

The people in the crowd are plenty, obviously that’s why we call them the crowd.

Matthew 7:13 Enter ye in at the strait gate: for wide is the gate, and broad is the way, that leadeth to destruction, and many there be which go in thereat.

So, broad and wide is the way that leads to destruction, and many follow the broad way.

Why are their so many people in the crowd? It is because the world has long gone into apostasy. Apostasy is the departure from the truth. This has happened long time ago when the people rejected God and chose to please themselves. And they are committed to continually seek self-worship.

What the Crowd Seek

In our effort to worship themselves, here are some of the things that the people seek:

1. What’s New and Popular

They seek what’s trending, those things that conform with the latest foolishness in the world.

They are in no way interested in the God of the Bible, the God who created the heavens and the earth, and them. He is too old-fashioned for them, and so is His words.

They are always discovering new gods and making some new ones as they go farther away into apostasy.

2. What Feels Good

The crowd is seeking that which promises some immediate satisfaction, even if what is promised is unrealistic. They take it anyway, because that’s what they want to hear.

The people want that which affirms their lifestyles. They don’t like to be told what to do. They abhor rebuke, and don’t like to be bothered by what anyone else thinks is right.

This is where the crowd movers come in.

The Crowd Movers

The crowd movers are those who use “the sleight of men and cunning craftiness,” that is, deceit, to draw the crowd to themselves. They spread their nets of deception for their unsuspecting followers who would later be trapped.

They are not interested in giving the truth. And there are two explanations for that:

  1. the crowd is not interested in the truth. But because the crowd movers want the crowd so badly, they have to abandon the truth to get the crowd.
  2. Secondly, the crowd movers do not have the truth to begin with. You cannot give what you do not have.

So, watch out for the crowd movers. They sometimes parade themselves as churches and ministries, but they are simply the crowd-moving movements. And there are others who call themselves the gospel singers who sing everything but the gospel!

The crowd movers sometimes grow so big overnight. But it is usually not based on the truth. They offer or promise things that appeal to the flesh which is the reason for their crowd.

The Relationship between the Crowd and the Crowd Movers

This is an obvious one, the crowd movers feed on the crowd. They are like the parasite which needs its host to grow, expand, and even replicate. If you look around you today, you will notice that they are replicating fast. They get rich by preying on their gullible followers.

The goal of the crowd movers is to fill their bellies and enrich their pockets and Bank accounts. The way they accomplish that is to have the crowd that will pay them. They are fond of introducing all sorts of special offerings which they connect to some empty promises.

The Crowd Movers and their Merchandise

We have many of them in Nigeria, which unfortunately, is one of the breeding grounds for false teachers. They sell things like the miracle handkerchiefs, water (some even call their own manna water – they are all the same), oil, and many more meaningless things. Those things are supposedly for healing and some kinds of blessings which never materialize.

The crowd movers make their fortunes, as usual. While the gullible crowd are busy drinking oil to cure heart disease rather than seeking medical treatment. Many have died of common treatable diseases because they were busy waiting for their miracle handkerchiefs to heal them.

Meanwhile, the deceivers who cashed in on the ignorance of the crowd are bragging about how blessed they are because they serve God. I guess they forgot to tell us how they stole from the people by deceiving them.

The Truth

Matthew 7:14 Because strait is the gate, and narrow is the way, which leadeth unto life, and few there be that find it.

Both the crowd and the crowd movers hate the truth. The reason that only the few will find and follow the truth is that not many people are willing to humble themselves and submit to it. The truth does not fit their lifestyles.

The following are some of the attributes of the truth.

1. It is Not New

Remember I mentioned earlier that the crowd seek what is new and popular. Well, that’s the opposite of the truth. The truth is not new, neither is it popular. It is that which was delivered to us centuries ago in the Word of God which is called the Bible. And yes, the Bible is the Word of God, whether you like it or not.

1 John 2:24 Let that therefore abide in you, which ye have heard from the beginning. If that which ye have heard from the beginning shall remain in you, ye also shall continue in the Son, and in the Father.

Even during the Apostles’ days, there were people who have already started coming out and claiming to have some special revelations or illuminations. The Apostles warn that we don’t need them.

The Bible gives us the truth. The crowd is uncomfortable with the truth. So they’d rather seek something new and appealing to their feelings than following the truth.

Watch out for those deceivers who always come up with something new. We have plenty of them around these days. They always have some kind of special revelations that they want to talk to you about apart from the Word of God.

2. It Sometimes Hurts

It doesn’t always feel good. It is supposed to hurt because it challenges not only your thoughts, but also your ways of life. It seeks to change you.

But the crowd does not like change. They don’t like to be challenged, or reproved. They like to be affirmed.

The truth is hard to take in and sometimes painful. This is because it calls you to accountability. You see, the crowd does not want to be accountable to God.

Watch out for ministries and the so-called ministers who don’t challenge you with their messages but like to affirm your fleshly lifestyles. You don’t need those.

3. The Truth Gives Life

If you obey the truth, you will have life. But it’s not just any kind of life, it is that which the Bible refers to as the “eternal,” or “everlasting” life. And if that is true, which I KNOW it is, then the truth is worth following.

Receive Him Today

You may be wondering what is this truth, or how do I follow it? Actually, the truth is a Person, not a thing. And Jesus Christ is the truth. But not only that, He is also the way and the life. If you receive Him, He shows you the way to follow, which is the way of life. You simply cannot go wrong if you go with Jesus Christ.

He says in the Bible: “I am the way, the truth, and the life: no man cometh unto the Father, but by me.”John 14:6.

Get Saved for Real

You follow the truth by trusting in Christ as your personal Saviour and Lord. The reason you need a Saviour is because you have sinned and offended God. Your sin have brought upon you the death penalty. That is the wage of sin.

But because of the love of God for us (John 3:16), Christ died and rose again to pay the penalty of your sins. If you repent from your sins and believe in what Christ did for you, you will be saved from the wrath of God which is coming soon upon the children of disobedience.

John 3:16 For God so loved the world, that he gave his only begotten Son, that whosoever believeth in him should not perish, but have everlasting life.

John 5:24 Verily, verily, I say unto you, He that heareth my word, and believeth on him that sent me, hath everlasting life, and shall not come into condemnation; but is passed from death unto life.

Don’t follow the crowd movers, all they can do is make you feel good for a time. But follow Jesus Christ. He has the words of life, and had prepared the eternal inheritance for you. THAT is worth following!
